T-Mac is clearly one of the best players in the NBA today, but he has never won the big one or even made it pass the first round in the playoffs. Why not?

Tracy McGrady has never won a playoff series and I’m sure that’s going to be the storyline when the Rockets open the playoffs. But in fairness to McGrady, he’s never had home-court advantage in the postseason. That, of course, means he's never actually been on a team favored to get past the first round.

And if you win, you could face Phoenix (in the second round), who is the one team Houston can't beat. The uptempo game makes Yao useless and Houston isn't disciplined enough to keep the tempo slow. I'd rather face the Jazz.

Yes, I agree that the Rockets matchup with some teams better than others. But would the Rockets be wise to remain a fourth seed even if they've got a chance to move up another spot in the West? Sorry, I can't agree with that argument.

Personally, I'm convinced the Rockets should try to gain home court advantage over as many teams as possible. Sure, it probably won't make a difference in the second round if both the Mavericks and Suns advance. But if the Rockets get past those first two rounds, they could obviously end up facing San Antonio in the Western Conference Finals. If that's a possibility, is it really that smart to avoid moving ahead of them in the standings? And yes, I'm aware the Rockets won in San Antonio twice this season.

Bonzi Wells actually doesn't even have a gripe over this. He'd obviously prefer to be playing, but he hasn't managed to cement his place in the Rockets' rotation at this point in the season. Rather than force Wells into the lineup, Van Gundy has left him on the inactive list.

As long as the Rockets aren't playing him for 20 to 25 minutes per game, I think both the Rockets and Wells are fine with him being on the inactive list.

I'd be surprised if Chuck Hayes wasn't back in a Houston uniform next season. I can't venture a guess on what sort of deal he might get, but the Rockets clearly recognize -- and love -- what Hayes brings to the team.

You may think I am crazy with my next proposal. However, hear me out until I've finished. In order for the Houston Rockets to win the NBA championship next year, I think that the following changes should made.

First, here's the big one. I think the Rockets should trade Yao Ming. A sin you may be thinking, however, you must look at it from the big picture. During Yao's absence, the Rockets went 21-10. Yao's offensive load was easily made up by Tracy McGrady's 29.9 points over January (plus 7.1 assists over that same period) and 27.2 points over February which McGrady is more than capable of getting 30 points plus and six assists without Yao. To further prove my point, Yao's rebounding of 9.6 was outweighed by Dikembe's 10.6 as a starter and we all know Deke can block! Hence, I believe a trade of Yao would be a positive step forward as we have shown we are able to compensate his scoring, rebounding and blocking. Also Yao's 3.76 turnovers are second in the league.

The second change I believe should be done is either trading Rafer Alston or having him on the bench. Luther Head definitely needs to be at starting point. As a starter, Head already can average more points and just as much assists.

Sorry, I can't see trading arguably the most dominant center in the NBA. Yes, I agree the Rockets played well without Yao and that the center has some areas for improvement. Well, really he has one area of improvement -- trimming his turnovers. But really, I don't think there is any plausible scenario where you give away a dominating big man because you have other guys that are doing fine. I don't see how you can scoff at 24.7 points and 9.5 rebounds. And, I might add that the Rockets never really replaced his interior scoring when he was out. McGrady's numbers did go up, but he didn't make up for 24-plus points every night in the paint.

As for benching Rafer Alston for Luther Head, I'm not sure that's a wise move. Head, by his own account, is a shooting guard and doesn't possess the point guard skills of Alston. And I'll say it again, Alston doesn't get enough credit for running the offense.

The Rockets didn't suddenly become the team to beat in the Western Conference when Yao Ming returned.

Since Yao Ming is still working his way back into playing shape, Tracy McGrady probably won't have his touches reduced right away. But the star swingman will eventually be taking fewer shots than he did during the center's absence.

But he's smart enough to understand the Rockets' best chance of winning is allowing Yao to dominate the paint -- and feeding off of that.

As far as injuries, McGrady and Yao didn't leave Monday's game against Cleveland with anything serious. McGrady had some pain in his knees after being kicked, but played through it. Yao, meanwhile, was fine after a hard spill in the fourth quarter.

Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy has gone with a rotation that pairs Yao Ming and Chuck Hayes together in the starting lineup.

Head figures to only show that shooting ability off more over the final six weeks of the season with defenses having to pay more attention to Yao Ming in the paint.

The Rockets certainly explored several options before Thursday's trading deadline, but in the end Houston didn't find an offer that would significantly improve the team for a playoff run.

I'm not sure there can be a real winner when there was hardly any movement. But maybe that makes the Dallas Mavericks Thursday's big winner.

Just a tad. The big question, of course, is whether Yao Ming will have the stamina and confidence to carry the offensive load right away after missing two months of the season. I'm assuming he'll need some time to get his legs back under him.

Luther Head does get the majority of his minutes as the Rockets' backup point guard, but he doesn't necessarily do the bulk of the ballhandling when Rafer Alston isn't on the floor. That role actually belongs to Tracy McGrady.

No question about it. The Rockets wouldn't have the fifth best record in the NBA and be on the heels of San Antonio and Utah for the third best record if it wasn't for Tracy McGrady. He has carried the Rockets without Yao Ming.

But I do think he has entered the MVP conversation for what he has done.

I don't think the trade will hurt. Jake Tsakalidis probably isn't going to be the difference between a first-round playoff exit and a deep postseason run, but he gives the Rockets some insurance at center. The Rockets clearly didn't have much size without Yao Ming and needed to add an extra big body in case either Dikembe Mutombo or Yao misses time in the postseason. So from that stand point, the team picked up some much-needed help in the middle. Tsakalidis might not get a ton of minutes when Yao returns in March, but the Rockets at least have one more option with size.

That, of course, could mean less playing time for Snyder barring injury or another roster move. Snyder did play well against Charlotte on Feb. 10, but the Rockets are going to stick with Wells in the rotation because of his offensive rebounding and ability to draw double teams in the paint.

I've received a ton of e-mail over the past week from fans hoping that Yao Ming will be back sooner than expected after reading his recent comments. But there's no reason to rush him. With the injury that he had, Yao and his doctors need to make sure that he is completely healed. That's why I'm guessing that he won't get cleared for game action until mid-March. It still gives him another month to test out his right leg and get back into playing shape.
