Tracy McGrady is seeking to win his first playoff series this season.

So ask Pierce anything about the NBA or the Rockets. He’ll come up with an answer or an answer that sounds right. His answers, of course, are entirely his own opinion.

What is on everyone's mind this week? The playoffs ... still.

T-Mac is clearly one of the best players in the NBA today, but he has never won the big one or even made it pass the first round in the playoffs. Why not?

Tracy McGrady has never won a playoff series and I’m sure that’s going to be the storyline when the Rockets open the playoffs. But in fairness to McGrady, he’s never had home-court advantage in the postseason. That, of course, means he's never actually been on a team favored to get past the first round.

He could get a boost this season if the Rockets can chase down the Utah Jazz for that fourth spot and earn home-court advantage in the opening round of the playoffs. But even if he doesn't, McGrady's chances of winning a playoff series appear to be significantly better this season than they've been in the past.

Not only is he still in his prime, but he's never been on a better team. He's got a superstar sidekick, Yao Ming, playing alongside him and Houston's roster is deeper than its been since he arrived in town.

But the most promising sign for McGrady is this: He isn't worried about getting past round one just to get that asterisk off his resume. McGrady is actually more concerned with seeing how deep the Rockets can go in the playoffs.

Why would the Rockets want to catch San Antonio? Doing so would put you up against either the Lakers or Nuggets. Both teams have had injury problems and both have playoff experience. I expect the Lakers to get hot once Luke Walton and Lamar Odom get healthy. Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony are going to play better together. And if you win, you could face Phoenix (in the second round), who is the one team Houston can't beat. The uptempo game makes Yao useless and Houston isn't disciplined enough to keep the tempo slow. I'd rather face the Jazz.

Yes, I agree that the Rockets matchup with some teams better than others. But would the Rockets be wise to remain a fourth seed even if they've got a chance to move up another spot in the West? Sorry, I can't agree with that argument.

The bottom line is that the Rockets are going to have to beat some good teams to win a championship. If you're trying to avoid teams like the Phoenix Suns or even Los Angeles Lakers in certain rounds of the postseason, then you're probably not going to get very far.

로켓츠의 최종 결말인 챔피언쉽에서 우승하기 위해서는 훌륭한 팀들을 물리쳐야만 할 겁니다. 만약 언급하신 대로 포스트 시즌에서 피닉스 선즈나 LA 레이커스 같은 팀조차도 만나는 것을 피하려고만 한다면, 아마도 멀리 가진 못할 겁니다.

Personally, I'm convinced the Rockets should try to gain home court advantage over as many teams as possible. Sure, it probably won't make a difference in the second round if both the Mavericks and Suns advance. But if the Rockets get past those first two rounds, they could obviously end up facing San Antonio in the Western Conference Finals. If that's a possibility, is it really that smart to avoid moving ahead of them in the standings? And yes, I'm aware the Rockets won in San Antonio twice this season.

And by the way, I don't think the Rockets would consider themselves lucky if they drew the Utah Jazz in the opening round of the playoffs and managed to get a second round matchup with the Dallas Mavericks. But that's me.

Why is it so difficult for Jeff Van Gundy to play Bonzi Wells for 10 minutes a game?

Bonzi Wells actually doesn't even have a gripe over this. He'd obviously prefer to be playing, but he hasn't managed to cement his place in the Rockets' rotation at this point in the season. Rather than force Wells into the lineup, Van Gundy has left him on the inactive list.

Could Van Gundy keep him active and maybe find him 10 minutes per game? Of course. But Van Gundy would have to cut someone else's minutes to accomplish that and, since the beginning of the season, Wells has maintained that he's not much interested in being a guy that plays limited minutes. As long as the Rockets aren't playing him for 20 to 25 minutes per game, I think both the Rockets and Wells are fine with him being on the inactive list.

I had the privilege of coaching Chuck for a few years and he deserves to be on this roster for years to come. The kid brings intensity and energy, and over the last few games when he is starting with Yao, he provides the help that is needed (and putting up good numbers). Your thoughts?

I'd be surprised if Chuck Hayes wasn't back in a Houston uniform next season. I can't venture a guess on what sort of deal he might get, but the Rockets clearly recognize -- and love -- what Hayes brings to the team.

How could they not? He's an ideal fit as a rebounder and low-block defender next to Yao Ming. And he's pretty darn good at running the pick-and-roll with Tracy McGrady even though he's missed a few gimmes. Above all else, though, the Rockets love the energy that he brings every night.

Are the Rockets trying to get Steve Francis back?

Here's the thing, Ricardo. Steve Francis isn't exactly available.

The NBA trading deadline passed long ago and the former Rockets guard is still a member of the New York Knicks. I know, I know. Those rumors about Francis being potentially bought out won't go away. But I seriously doubt the Knicks are going to cut the guard loose while they're still chasing a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

You may think I am crazy with my next proposal. However, hear me out until I've finished. In order for the Houston Rockets to win the NBA championship next year, I think that the following changes should made.

다음과 같은 저의 제안에 미쳤다고 생각할지도 모릅니다. 하지만, 제 말을 끝까지 들어보시길. 휴스턴 로켓츠가 다음해에 NBA 챔피언쉽을 따내기 위해서는, 다음과 같은 변화가 필요하다고 생각합니다.

First, here's the big one. I think the Rockets should trade Yao Ming. A sin you may be thinking, however, you must look at it from the big picture. During Yao's absence, the Rockets went 21-10. Yao's offensive load was easily made up by Tracy McGrady's 29.9 points over January (plus 7.1 assists over that same period) and 27.2 points over February which McGrady is more than capable of getting 30 points plus and six assists without Yao. To further prove my point, Yao's rebounding of 9.6 was outweighed by Dikembe's 10.6 as a starter and we all know Deke can block! Hence, I believe a trade of Yao would be a positive step forward as we have shown we are able to compensate his scoring, rebounding and blocking. Also Yao's 3.76 turnovers are second in the league.

(* 실제 순위는 6위 정도..)

The second change I believe should be done is either trading Rafer Alston or having him on the bench. Luther Head definitely needs to be at starting point. As a starter, Head already can average more points and just as much assists.

Sorry, I can't see trading arguably the most dominant center in the NBA. Yes, I agree the Rockets played well without Yao and that the center has some areas for improvement. Well, really he has one area of improvement -- trimming his turnovers. But really, I don't think there is any plausible scenario where you give away a dominating big man because you have other guys that are doing fine. I don't see how you can scoff at 24.7 points and 9.5 rebounds. And, I might add that the Rockets never really replaced his interior scoring when he was out. McGrady's numbers did go up, but he didn't make up for 24-plus points every night in the paint.

죄송하지만, NBA에서 아마 가장 도미넌트한 센터임에 틀림없는 선수를 트레이드 하리라곤 생각할 수가 없네요. 그래요, 야오없이도 로켓츠는 잘 풀어나갔다는 것에 동의합니다. 야오도 좀 더 발전이 필요한 부분이 있습니다. 특히나 턴오버에 대해서는요. 그러나 정말로, 다른 선수들이 잘해주기에 도미넌트한 빅맨을 내보내야한다는 시나리오가 그럴듯하다고는 생각되지 않습니다. 어떻게 24.7득점 - 9.5리바운드를 기록하는 것을 우습게 여기는 건지 알수가 없네요. 그리고 야오가 나간다면 로켓츠는 야오의 인사이드 득점력을 결코 대체하진 못합니다. 티맥의 스탯은 상승하겠지만, 그러나 티맥이 매일밤 페인트 존에서 24+득점을 올려줄수는 없습니다.

As for benching Rafer Alston for Luther Head, I'm not sure that's a wise move. Head, by his own account, is a shooting guard and doesn't possess the point guard skills of Alston. And I'll say it again, Alston doesn't get enough credit for running the offense.

레이퍼 앨스턴을 벤치로 보내고 루써 헤드로 대신하는 것에 대해서도, 저는 정말 그게 현명한 일인지 확신할 수가 없네요. 헤드는 슈팅가드이지, 앨스턴의 포인트가드 스킬들을 지니고 있진 못합니다. 다시 말하는 거지만, 앨스턴은 공격에 있어서 충분한 평가를 받고 있지 못합니다.
