Player of the Week
Shaquille O'Neal – The Big Daddy has turned it on, and so has his team. The Miami Heat have won six in a row, thanks in large part (so to speak) to Shaq, who has taken over the offense with his dominating low post game. Apparently he's got a reserve tank of gas that we didn't know about.
Hero of the Week
Steve Francis – With his team down two in Washington, Francis nailed a buzzer-beating three-pointer to beat the Wizards and further the New York Knicks' playoff hopes. His jumper capped a 26-point night, his second in three games, and helped soothe the pain of a long, difficult season.
Game of the Week
Wednesday: Phoenix Suns at Dallas Mavericks – If the Suns are going to have any chance at catching the Mavericks for the No. 1 seed in the West, they have to win this game. The Mavs, meanwhile, are looking to go 3-0 against their Western Conference rival. | |
When Philadelphia traded Allen Iverson to Denver in December, it was generally assumed that the Nuggets got the better end of the deal. They were acquiring a 30-point-a-game scorer, an NBA icon and a man who was expected to lead his new team to great heights.
The 76ers, on the other hand, were simply clearing salary-cap room by adding a couple of late first-round picks and planning for the future. Philly was expected to plummet to the bottom of the standings.
So what's happened? The Nuggets have been so-so, plodding around the .500 mark, while the Sixers have suddenly come alive.
The man Philadelphia acquired from Denver in the deal – Andre Miller – has been terrific at the point, running the team and helping Andre Iguodala emerge as a star. Suddenly, the Sixers have caught fire, winning seven games in a row and surging up the Eastern Conference standings. And with cap relief and three first-rounders in the 2007 draft, Philly doesn't have a future that looks so bleak anymore.
Here's a look at this week's rankings (records and statistics are through March 11):
 1. Dallas Mavericks (52-9, Last ranking: 1) – 17연승을 기록중인 매브스.. LA 원정 게임에서 안그래도 허덕이고 있는 레이커스를 넉다운시켜 버렸다.
 2. Phoenix Suns (48-14, Last ranking: 2) –대단한 건 아니지만, 선즈는 올스타 브레이크 이후에 10게임중 9승을 거두고 있다.(-_-)
 3. San Antonio Spurs (45-18, Last ranking: 3) – 새크라멘토에서의 승리와 함께 지노빌리의 대활약이 이어지고 있다.
 4. Utah Jazz (43-19, Last ranking: 4) – 리그 대부분의 GM들에게 물어봐라.크리스 폴보다는 오히려 데론 윌리암스를 가지고 싶어 할거다. 재즈는 정말 옳은 선택을 한 것처럼 보인다.
 5. Detroit Pistons (39-22, Last ranking: 5) – 쉬드의 16번째 테크니컬 파울은 한 게임 결장으로 이어졌다. 하지만 피스톤즈는 쉬드 없이도 클리퍼스에게 승리했다.
 6. Houston Rockets (39-24, Last ranking: 8) – 야오밍이 돌아왔고 올랜도 전에서 37득점으로 승리를 이끌었다. 야오와 티맥이 남은 시즌에서 건강을 유지할 수 있는가?(가 쟁점이 될 것이다.)
 7. Cleveland Cavaliers (38-25, Last ranking: 7) – 바레장이 밀워키를 무너뜨렸다. 올스타 브레이크 이후 두번째 바레장의 위닝샷이다.
 8. Chicago Bulls (37-28, Last ranking: 6) – 매우 조용하지만, 동부에서 착실하고 강건하게 노력하고 있다. 불스는 시즌 후반기에 접어들어서 8승3패를 거두고 있다.
 9. Miami Heat (33-29, Last ranking: 13) – 하슬렘의 버저비터는 위저즈를 침몰시켰고, 히트는 사우스이스트 디비전에서 1위인 위저즈와 한 게임차로 추격하고 있다.
 10. Washington Wizards (34-28, Last ranking: 9) – 위저즈가 디비전을 접수할 뻔했지만, 어느새 마이애미가 턱밑으로 다가왔다. 현재 히트가 위저즈를 추월할 것처럼 보인다.
 11. Toronto Raptors (34-29, Last ranking: 10) – 멤피스와 시애틀은 정말 적당한 시기에 나타났다.: 랩터스는 이 두 어린 양들에게 연승하기 전엔 3연패를 기록중이었다.
 12. Los Angeles Lakers (33-31, Last ranking: 11) – 조심해!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 13. Los Angeles Clippers (29-33, Last ranking: 12) – 클리퍼스는 6게임 원정 트립에서 어려움을 겪고 있다. 3연패를 기록중이니 말이다.
 14. Denver Nuggets (30-31, Last ranking: 16) – 조지칼이 공개적으로 카멜로 앤써니의 이기적인 플레이를 지적하면서, 덴버에서의 허니문은 끝났다.
 15. New Orleans Hornets (28-35, Last ranking: 14) – 호넷츠는 5연패에 빠졌지만, 이번 주 스케쥴은 완만하다. 이번 기회에 치고 나가야만 한다.
 16. New York Knicks (29-34, Last ranking: 17) – 마버리는 크로포드가 시즌 아웃된 이후 최고의 모습을 보여주고 있다. 지난 5게임 동안 게임당 평균 30득점을 해주고 있다.
 17. Sacramento Kings (28-34, Last ranking: 18) – 체포되었던 아테스트가 돌아왔지만, 덴버전에서 킹스에게 도움이 되진 못했다.
 18. Golden State Warriors (29-36, Last ranking: 22) – 워리어스는 포틀랜드 전에서의 대패만 아니었으면 거의 완벽한 한 주를 보낼뻔했다. 그렇지만 3승1패는 나쁜 성적이 아니다.
 19. New Jersey Nets (28-35, Last ranking: 15) – "텍사스 트라이앵글"은 넷츠에게 전혀 친절하지 않았다. 넷츠는 지난주 텍사스 3팀에게 총합 50점차로 3게임을 모두 패했다.
 20. Orlando Magic (29-35, Last ranking: 21) – 매직은 이번 시즌 리그에서 가장 실망스런 팀중 하나다. 플레이오프 탈락의 위기에 있으니 말이다.
 21. Philadelphia 76ers (25-38, Last ranking: 23) – 식서스 팬들은 연승이 좋은 건지 나쁜 건지, 이판단하려 노력중이다. 어쨋든 그렉 오든이나 케빈 듀란트를 원하고 있지만, 각각의 승리는 식서스의 로터리 찬스를 점점더 희박하게 만들고 있다.
 22. Minnesota Timberwolves (27-35, Last ranking: 20) – 리키 데이비스는 지난 5게임에서 평균 25득점을 해주고 있지만, 그건 단지 기록일 뿐이다. 문제는 울프스가 그 기간동안에 겨우 1승 4패를 거두고 있다는 점이다.
 23. Indiana Pacers (29-33, Last ranking: 19) – 계속되는 와해.. 페이서스가 플레이오프에 나갈 수 있을까?
 24. Atlanta Hawks (25-39, Last ranking: 27) – 조 존슨은 시즌 아웃이 되었다. 그러나 호크스는 지난주 존슨 없이도 3연승으로 잘해 나가고 있다.
 25. Portland Trail Blazers (26-36, Last ranking: 24) – 브랜든 로이는 ROY를 위해 노력하고 있다. 또한 로이는 팀내에서 클러치 타임을 도맡고 있다.
 26. Seattle SuperSonics (25-38, Last ranking: 26) – 올스타 브레이크 이후에 살아나는 징조를 보였지만, 지난주에 3연패에 빠졌다.
 27. Milwaukee Bucks (23-40, Last ranking: 28) – 벅스는 점점 건강을 되찾아가고 있고 최고조에 이르고 있지만, 시즌 초반에 레드의 부상은 포스트시즌에 대한 희망을 접게 하였다.
 28. Charlotte Bobcats (22-41, Last ranking: 25) – 밥캣츠는 8연패에 이르렀다.그저 시즌이 끝날 날만을 손꼽아 기다릴뿐이다.
 29. Boston Celtics (18-44, Last ranking: 29) – 알 제퍼슨이 계속 좋은 모습을 보여주고 있다. : 시애틀전에 31득점 16리바운드를 기록하며 팀승리를 이끌었다.
 30. Memphis Grizzlies (16-48, Last ranking: 30) – 다가올 여름에 그리즐리스에 먼 일이 일어날까? 제리 웨스트는 떠날거라고 말하고 있고, 팀은 새 감독을 고용하고 세일에 나설지도 모른다. 그거 말고는 일어날 일이 많지 않을 것이다.
