Team of the Week
Boston Celtics – The Celtics somehow won four games in a row in a span of seven days, after winning four total games over the previous 72 days. Now that's a turnaround.
Stat of the Week
100 points – No, Wilt's record is still intact, but two players combined for 100 in the Chicago-Milwaukee contest Sunday: Ben Gordon and Michael Redd. Gordon's 48 points were better than Redd's 52 because the Bulls overcame the Bucks in overtime to win 126-121. It was perhaps the best individual duel of the season, with both players proving to be totally unstoppable in an outrageous game.
Game of the Week
Sunday: Dallas Mavericks at Los Angeles Lakers – The Mavericks have lost only twice in their last 25 games, and one of those losses was at Staples Center. With Lamar Odom out, the Lakers will be missing their best matchup defensively for Dirk Nowitzki, who figures to have a huge night. But L.A. always seems to play Dallas well at home, and Kobe Bryant will want to put on a show in front of a national TV audience. | |
They've been lying in the weeds all season. Most fans have forgotten all about them. The Dallas Mavericks are so far ahead of them in the standings that they have no shot at a division title.
Quietly though, the San Antonio Spurs have put together their best stretch of the season, winning eight straight games with a display of ferocious defense. In six of those victories, the Spurs gave up fewer than 83 points, proving that they remain the best defensive club in the NBA.
With its three stars – Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili – healthy and playing with great energy, San Antonio appears poised for a strong run down the stretch. So before you anoint Dallas and Phoenix as the two best teams in the league, just remember that the Spurs are as capable as ever of winning an NBA title.
Here's a look at this week's rankings (records and statistics are through March 4):
 1. Dallas Mavericks (50-9, Last ranking: 1) – 현재 매브스가 기록중인 15연승으로 한 시즌에 총 3번의 12연승을 거둔 리그 역사상 최초의 팀이 되었다.
 2. Phoenix Suns (46-14, Last ranking: 2) – 선즈가 아쉽게도 동부 컨퍼런스 원정 게임을 스윕하지 못했다. 필리에게 패하면서 동부 원정에서의 기록은 14승1패가 되었다.
 3. San Antonio Spurs (41-18, Last ranking: 4) – 자큐 본은 백업 포인트 가드 임무를 넘겨 받았고 그일을 매우 잘해 주고 있다.
 4. Utah Jazz (40-19, Last ranking: 3) – 원정 3연승은 레이커스에게 홈에서 당한 일격을 가벼워지게 도왔다. 건강한 재즈는 상대하기 힘들 것이다.
 5. Detroit Pistons (37-20, Last ranking: 5) – 이제까지 피스톤즈의 스케쥴은 수월했지만, 다음 21일동안 13게임을 소화해야 하는 앞으로의 스케쥴은 달라질것이다. 거기다 금요일 덴버에서부터 시작되는 서부 5연정을 포함해서 말이다.
 6. Chicago Bulls (35-27, Last ranking: 8) – 불스는 올스타-브레이크 이후에 잘해주고 있다. 가장 큰 이유는 바로 벤 고든의 활약일 것이다. 고든은 벅스전에서 48득점을 올리며 연장전 승리를 이끌었다.
 7. Cleveland Cavaliers (34-25, Last ranking: 9) – 르브론 제임스는 계속해서 클러치 타임에 부진했지만, 올스타-브레이크 이후에 르브론의 플레이는 좋아졌다.
 8. Houston Rockets (36-23, Last ranking: 6) – 로켓츠가 얼마나 티맥에게 의존하고 있냐구? 티맥이 결장한 보스턴전에서 로켓츠는 겨우 72득점을 기록하며 패했다.
 9. Washington Wizards (33-25, Last ranking: 10) – 정말 일요일 골든 스테이츠와의 게임은 이상하게 끝났다. 하지만 승리는 승리이고, 안트완 재미슨이 돌아왔다. 위저즈는 더욱 나아진 모습을 보일 것이다.
 10. Toronto Raptors (32-28, Last ranking: 7) – 랩터스는 지난주 3번의 패배에서 다 합해서 52점차를 기록했다. 만약 랩터스가 디비전에서 승리하고 네츠를 따돌리려면 재편성해야만 할것이다.
 11. Los Angeles Lakers (33-27, Last ranking: 11) – 라마 오덤은 어깨 부상으로 시즌 아웃될지도 모른다. 레이커스는 단지 건강하지 못한 것이다.
 12. Los Angeles Clippers (29-30, Last ranking: 15) – 숀 리빙스턴의 소름끼치는 무릎 부상은 클리퍼스의 시즌에 어두운 막을 드리웠다.
 13. Miami Heat (29-29, Last ranking: 16) – 샤크가 가장 적극적으로 플레이함에 따라, 플레이오프 탈락에서 구해줄것이다.
 14. New Orleans Hornets (28-32, Last ranking: 12) – 지난주 4게임에서 3패를 거둔후, 더 어려워지고 있다. 호넷츠는 피닉스,덴버, 그리고 유타에서의 원정게임을 치뤄야한다.
 15. New Jersey Nets (28-32, Last ranking: 14) – 지난주 셀틱스와 식서스에게 패하면서, 슬럼프에 빠진 랩터스를 따라잡을 절호의 기회를 놓쳤다.
 16. Denver Nuggets (28-29, Last ranking: 21) – 앨런 아이버슨과 카멜로 앤써니는 마침내 건강해진 모습으로 같이 뛸 수 있게 되었지만, 덴버의 가장 취약한 부분에서는 많은 도움이 되지 못한다. 바로 수비말이다. 덴버는 5게임 연속으로 100+ 실점을 내주고 있다.
 17. New York Knicks (28-33, Last ranking: 22) – 자말 크로포드의 시즌 아웃 부상으로도 닉스의 에너지와 열정을 거둘 수는 없다. 닉스는 플레이오프에 근접해 있다.
 18. Sacramento Kings (27-32, Last ranking: 25) – 킹스가 온-파이어 모드이다. 지난 주 3게임 연속 평균 118점을 기록하며 승리를 거두고 있다.
 19. Indiana Pacers (29-29, Last ranking: 13) –쉬쉬거리는 소리가 들리는가? 그건 페이서스라는 기구에서 공기가 빠지는 소리일거다. 페이서스는 5연패동안에 총 98점차로 지고 있다.
 20. Minnesota Timberwolves (26-33, Last ranking: 17) – 7게임에서 6패를 거두면서 울브즈는 서부 11위로 떨어졌고 플레이오프 8위와는 3게임차가 되었다.
 21. Orlando Magic (28-33, Last ranking: 20) – 시카고에서의 대승은 최근의 부진함을 만회하게 했지만, 다시 3연패를 거두면서, 여전히 비틀거리고 있다.
 22. Golden State Warriors (26-35, Last ranking: 19) – 제이슨 리차드슨은 일요일 위저즈전에서 28득점을 기록하며 예전모습으로 돌아왔다. 여전히 워리어스의 시즌은 응급상황이다. 워리어스는 6연패를 기록중이다.
 23. Philadelphia 76ers (22-38, Last ranking: 28) – 식서스는 지난주 4연승을 기록했다. 안드레 이궈달라와 카일 코버의 플레이는 점점더 나아지고 있다.
 24. Portland Trail Blazers (25-35, Last ranking: 24) – 라마커스 앨드리지는 샬럿 전에서 커리어 하이인 30득점을 기록하며 팀승리를 이끌었다.
 25. Charlotte Bobcats (22-38, Last ranking: 23) – 밥캣츠는 현재 서부 원정에서 4패만을 기록했고, 여전히 유타와 피닉스에서의 게임이 남아있다.
 26. Seattle SuperSonics (24-35, Last ranking: 26) – 건강을 뒤찾은 라샤드 루이스와 함께, 소닉스는 완전히 다른 팀이 되었다. 지난주 소닉스가 3승1패를 거두는 동안 루이스는 27득점을 기록했다.
 27. Atlanta Hawks (22-38, Last ranking: 18) – 다행히도, 호크스의 가장 힘든 시기는 끝이났다. 애틀란타는 그 기간도안 5연패를 기록했고 총8게임에서 7패를 거두었다
