Team of the Week
Detroit Pistons – Detroit. The Pistons went 3-0 and have now won 10 of their last 12 games. Chris Webber has infused life into the Detroit offense with his terrific passing skills. For the week, the Pistons averaged 29.3 assists per game – about eight more than their season average.
Quote of the Week
Dwyane Wade in response to Dirk Nowitzki's repeated claims that the Mavericks "handed Miami the championship" in last year's Finals: "He's the reason they lost the championship because he wasn't the leader he was supposed to be in the closing moments." Miami will play in Dallas on Feb. 22.
Game of the Week

In 2004, the Eastern Conference was ridiculed for its lack of elite teams. It was assumed that the survivor of the rough and tumble West – Lakers, Spurs or Timberwolves – would automatically roll over the Eastern champs, who were bound to be overwhelmed in the Finals. But a funny thing happened that season. The Pistons' defensive-minded approach was too much for a star-studded Lakers squad and Detroit shocked L.A. to win the NBA title in five games.
Here we are three years later and the circumstances are remarkably similar. The East has been awful all season while all the power teams reside in the West. But with the Pistons beginning to catch fire, it's becoming clear that a repeat of 2004 is entirely possible.
Detroit is beginning to take control of the Central Division with an unselfish, balanced style and a renewed commitment to defense. And with Chris Webber in the mix, the Pistons have the most complete starting five in basketball.
Unlike last season when Detroit raced out of the blocks and peaked too soon, the Pistons are building momentum and just beginning to play their best basketball. Their recent play has vaulted Flip Saunders' team all the way to the No. 3 spot in the latest Yahoo! Sports rankings.
Here's a closer look at this week's rankings (records and statistics are through Feb. 11):
 1. Dallas Mavericks (42-9, Last ranking: 1) – 데븐 조지의 맹활약으로 지난주 3승 무패를 거두면서, 댈러스가 리그 최고팀이자 리그 최고의 벤치 뎁쓰를 가진 팀인걸 재확인했다.

 4. Utah Jazz (33-17, Last ranking: 4) – 재즈는 4연승하는 동안 4게임 다합해서 겨우 14점의 리드로 승리를 거두어왔다. 이것은 재즈가 정신적으로 얼마나 터프한지 잘 보여준다.그리고 메멧 오쿠어는 리그 최고의 클러치 슈터중 하나가 되었다.

 9. Miami Heat (25-26, Last ranking: 14) – 이 팀이 탑 10안에 든건 정말 오랜만이다. 히트는 지금 사우쓰이스트 디비젼을 탈환하려 한다.; 1위자리를 차지하고 있는 워싱턴과는 단지 4게임차 이다.
 10. Chicago Bulls (29-23, Last ranking: 9) – 불스는 피닉스에서 승리하면서 터프한 서부 원정에서 살아났다. 타이러스 토마스는 스타팅 라인업에 올라섰고 불스는 토마스의 출장시간을 좀더 늘려 주었다.
 11. Los Angeles Lakers (30-22, Last ranking: 7) – 어이쿠, 13일 동안 무려 8게임을.. 그것도 전부 원정게임이다. 레이커스는 원정에서의 3승 5패의 성적을 뒤로하고 마침내 홈으로 돌아왔다.
 12. Washington Wizards (28-21, Last ranking: 8) – 길교주는 "Team USA Redemption Tour"의 일환으로 국대 코치였던 네이트 맥밀란이 감독으로 있는 포틀랜드와의 게임에서 50득점을 약속했지만, 결국 9득점만 기록했다.
 13. New Orleans Hornets (24-27, Last ranking: 16) – 타이슨 챈들러가 도미네이트해 지고 있다. : 지난 9게임에서 평균 16리바운드를 잡아주고 있다.
 14. Indiana Pacers (27-24, Last ranking: 10) – 페이서스는 워리어스전 패배를 비롯하여, 3연패를 기록하며 올시즌 처음으로 탑10에서 미끌어졌다.
 15. Los Angeles Clippers (25-26, Last ranking: 13) – 필라델피아에서 1점차 승리로 지난주 4패에서 벗어났다. LA의 긴 원정 여행은 마침내 월요일 디트로이트에서 마감한다.
 16. New Jersey Nets (25-27, Last ranking: 18) – 빈스 카터의 마지막 슛으로 애틀란타에 승리했고, 넷츠의 4연패를 탈출하게 만들었다. 카터의 눈부신 플레이는 보스턴과 올랜도 전도 팀을 승리로 이끌었다.
 17. Denver Nuggets (25-24, Last ranking: 15) – 여전히 아이버슨이 없는 상태지만, 너겟츠는 원정 2연승을 거뒀다.
 18. Orlando Magic (26-26, Last ranking: 17) –히도 터커글루와 드와이트 하워드는 올시즌 매팀 최고의 하이라이트를 만드는데 협력했다.: 마지막 1초를 남기고, 사이드 아웃 오브 바운드에서 하워드의 결승 앨리웁 덩크로 스퍼스에게 승리했다.
 19. Atlanta Hawks (20-30, Last ranking: 22) – 조 존슨의 대활약으로 친정팀인 피닉스에 승리했다.
 20. Sacramento Kings (22-27, Last ranking: 24) – 마이크 비비의 기대이하의 시즌(39 fg%, 30 3p%)은 트레이딩 블록에 올려놓게 만들었다.
 21. New York Knicks (22-29, Last ranking: 20) – 스티브 프랜시스는 마침내 복귀했다. 12월 29이후 처음 복귀한 게임에서 13득점을 기록했다.
 22. Minnesota Timberwolves (24-27, Last ranking: 19) – 울브즈는 일요일 셀틱스전에서 109-107로 승리하면서 낭패를 면했다. 어느 누구도 보스턴의 연패를 끊어줄 팀이 되길 원하지 않는다.
 23. Golden State Warriors (24-28, Last ranking: 23) – 스티븐 잭슨은 인디애나에서 자신의 복귀를 알렸다 : 36득점으로 워리어스의 대승을 이끌면서 말이다.
 24. Portland Trail Blazers (22-30, Last ranking: 25) – 워싱턴에게 21점차 승리는 올해 블레이저스의 최고의 승리 일지도 모른다.
 25. Seattle SuperSonics (19-32, Last ranking: 27) – 요즘 소닉스에 있어 가장 흥미로운 이슈는 승패에 관련된게 아니다. 바로 소닉스가 시애틀에 잔류하는지 여부다.
 26. Charlotte Bobcats (18-33, Last ranking: 21) – 4연패로 지난주에 비해 5계단 떨어졌다. 밥캣츠는 수요일 시카고전에서 "schneid"(이게 멀 의미하든지간에)를 벋어나려고 노력할 것이다.
 27. Philadelphia 76ers (17-35, Last ranking: 26) – 안드레 이궈달라가 완전 폭발했다. 10게임 연속으로 팀내 득점 1위를 달리고 있다.
 28. Milwaukee Bucks (19-32, Last ranking: 28) – 얼 보이킨스는 옛 동료들을 상대로 26득점을 했지만, 벅스는 너겟츠에 패했다. 이번 패배는 지난 20게임중 17번째 패배였다.
 29. Memphis Grizzlies (13-39, Last ranking: 29) – 그리즐리스는 에디 존스를 바이아웃했고, 존스는 마이애미에 갈 수 있었다. 이 말은 곧 멤피스의 젊은 선수들에게 좀 더 기회가 늘어난다는 얘기.
 30. Boston Celtics (12-38, Last ranking: 30) – 이제 미친짓은 그만.. 셀틱스는 현재 18연패중이다. 이 자랑스런 프랜차이즈가 언제 제대로 돌아갈까.
